How to Save a PDF From Email to iBooks

When you go to email an attachment in Apple mail, the maximum size can only be 20 MB. You can see in the above image, the class notes I want to sent are 273.2 MB. Oh oh. What do I do? No problem Apple has a work around.

When you tap on the paper plane to send the email a popup window appears telling you that the file size is too large. Instead you tap on "Use Mail Drop."

Mail Drop allows you to send large files through the iCloud. You can send attachments up to 5 GB this way. After you send the email via Mail Drop, the recipients have 30 days to download the files. After that they are no longer available.

This is how I have been sending class notes, because the note files are large.

So how do you download them? I recommend that you download and save these notes to iBooks. That way they are saved after the 30 day Mail Drop limit and you can read them on your iPhone or iPad like a book. Plus by keeping them in iBooks you have them handy in case you need to refer back to them while photographing or editing on your iPhone.

1.  Open your email.

2.  Tap on the file to download it to your email. Depending on the size of the attachment this can take several minutes.

3.  Once the file is downloaded to your email press and hold on the file. A popup window will appear. Tap on "Share."

4.  Another popup window appears asking you where you want to share this file. There are icons at the top. Swipe right to left on them until you see the iBooks logo. Tap on that logo.

5.   The iBooks app will launch and you should now see your PDF notes saved in your library.

6.   Tap on the notes cover to open.

Now you just hold your iPhone/iPad vertically or horizontally and swipe through the pages just like you do a regular book.
